Butoh Seminar by Du Yufang (Dudu) - FrownTails, Athens-Greece, 17th-18th January 2013
Du Yufang teaches Butoh technics and philosophy during the two day seminar in Athens.
Born in Beijing, Du Yufang received her BA in art communication at Beijing Dance Academy and has an inter-academic study in Art History and Communication at the Central Academy of Fine Arts. She has learned French, Spanish, Swedish at the Beijing University of Foreign Languages, and studied Chinese and Western culture.
In 2011, Du joined Penglai Dance group as producer and dancer. In 2012 she started “Top-to-toe Butoh,” the first Butoh group in mainland China, working as director.
Katsura Kan is her physical mentor. Following his influence, Du has performed, researched, lectured, and collaborated in countries and areas including China, Thailand, Malaysia, Egypt, Cambodia, and Switzerland. Cross-border collaborations include those with artists from drama, sculpture, music, fine arts, cinema, and so on.
She insists on exploring the pure physical possibilities, internal and external, discovering the body in the happening, and finding the "meaning" in the "meaningless".
